William Boyd Watterson II (born July 5, 1958) is an American former cartoonist and the author of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, which was syndicated from 1985 to 1995. Watterson stopped drawing Calvin and Hobbes at the end of 1995 with a short statement to newspaper editors and his readers that he felt he had achieved all he could in the medium.. Watterson is known for his negative views.

Calvin is the main character of the beloved newspaper comic Calvin and Hobbes. He is a surprisingly intelligent six year old boy, but is also very unruly at both school and home. He has an extremely overactive imagination, and a stuffed tiger named Hobbes that may or may not be an actual real life tiger.
Artist Stephan Pastis, like other comic strip artists, sometimes makes reference to Bill Watterson’s much-loved and long-gone strip “Calvin and Hobbes.” Pastis and the notoriously private Watterson struck up an email friendship recently and that led to Watterson actually drawing a couple of days worth of Pastis’ strip, “Pearls Before Swine.”.
